Roof System

Roof vs Roofing System

A roof entails more than just its outermost layer of shingles. A complete roofing system comprises elements such as ventilation, insulation, ice and water barriers, felt underlayment, and shingles. A roofing system is achieved when all these elements are manufactured by the same company and are meticulously designed and tested to work together seamlessly. This uniformity and excellence within your roofing system are paramount for long-lasting durability. Many manufacturers offer comprehensive roofing systems, and certified contractors have undergone specialized training to ensure these systems are installed correctly and efficiently. At Fort Tex Metals & Roofing we offer both GAF’s and Owens Corning’s Roofing systems.

Decking or Sheathing

The bottom layer is usually made of plywood or oriented strand board and serves as the base for the roof. It provides structural support for the entire system.

Leak Barrier

A leak barrier serves as a safeguard for areas prone to water accumulation or runoff, such as valleys, eaves, chimneys, and skylights. It plays a vital role in shielding against potential harm caused by shingle blow-off, wind-driven rain, and ice damming. Its purpose is to ensure that the underlying wood remains shielded from damaging moisture in case the shingles do not effectively perform their role

Underlayment

Installed over the decking, underlayment is a water-resistant or waterproof membrane that acts as a secondary barrier against moisture. Common materials include felt paper or synthetic materials like synthetic underlayment.

Starter Shingles

Starter shingles are equipped with a premium adhesive, strategically placed to securely fasten your shingles, thereby minimizing the risk of shingle blow-off. They guarantee a straight and tightly sealed edge along the eaves and rake, fortifying these areas against the impact of strong winds.

Shingles

Roof shingles are the outermost layer of a roofing system, designed to protect your home from the elements. They come in a variety of materials, styles, and colors, providing both aesthetic appeal and weatherproofing. Shingles are key to ensuring your roof's durability and visual charm while safeguarding your investment.

Attic Ventilation

Good Attic Ventilation helps with heat and moisture buildup that can lead to ice damming, roof deterioration, and mold infestation. Attic Ventilation helps air flow through the attic to manage temperature and moisture.

Ridge Cap

Ridge caps are specially designed asphalt shingles that protect the areas where two roof faces meet. They're typically curved or bent in the middle to help protect the joint from water intrusion and debris.
